go GREEN tip of the week!
MIO was founded by the Salm brothers (Isaac, the numbers guy and Jaime, the design guy) with the objective of combining business rigor with environmentally and socially progressive design. MIO's success is the result of Jaime and Isaac's vision and the contributions of hard working and creative designers, interns, manufacturers, engineers and business professionals.
What
MIO is a design company dedicated to creating the most sustainable and innovative design experiences in the market. Serving the needs and desires of our loyal customers and consulting clients guides our design, marketing, manufacturing and consulting activities.
Where
Based out of Philadelphia ("the workshop of the world" in the late 1800's) MIO builds on a strong local manufacturing base and a diverse pool of creative individuals that is ever present in the city.
When
Since our founding in 2001, we have encouraged our customers to grow into a greener, healthier, happier and more profitable future. Our design focuses on the needs of people today and aims towards the technologically advanced and responsible product experiences of tomorrow.
Why
Guided by the company's philosophy of "Responsible Desire" MIO has introduced design that strategically harnesses the most eco-intelligent aspects of conventional manufacturing, marketing and distribution methods. This approach has resulted in the integration of existing technologies and industries into a profitable value-added system that is both socially and environmentally responsible.
go GREEN tip of the week
This week's go GREEN tip comes from the fabulous Heather of Vallentyne Photography!
It may not seem like much but if you use Google as your search engine use Blackgle instead. It is Google’s energy efficient webpage, since the page is black it cuts down on the amount of energy your computer is using.
Blackgle
Pass it on!
Thanks Heather!

stop CONSUMING. (I saw this on a stop sign in Poipu. It seemed very profound so I am passing it on.)
Take this anyway you want. Recognize something wasteful that you do and stop. Please leave a comment on how you are going to stop consuming.
Here's a pic from the plane of snow on the Big Island taken with my iPhone.

Soy
Consider buying soy food products. Growing soybeans doesn't require nearly the amount of water that's needed to raiser animals. A household that replaces one pound of beef with one pound of soy per month will conserve twenty thousand gallons of water per year. If just 20 percent of households in the United States and Canada substituted four ounces of beef for four ounces of soy per week, the annual water savings would be enough to provide ten gallons of drinking water to every person in the world. (Another great tip from the green book.)
Morning Star has some great soy products, especially the vegetarian sausage patties. Yum! My personal fave is the Mushroom Lover's Burger. (:

Litter
Dispose of your waste properly. Ninety-four percent of people identify litter as a major environmental problem. The biggest sources of litter are cigarette butts, bottles and cans (including tops and pull tabs, candy wrappers, and fast food packaging. More than two billion pounds of cigarette butts are discarded worldwide - about two pounds for every person in China. Gross. (Another great tip from the green book.)
